SCOTT CITY -- Ronald L. Thompson Sr. 75, formerly of Benton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, surrounded by family and friends.

Ron was born and raised in Benton and was a 1963 graduate of Kelly High school. He moved to St. Louis in the early 60s where he started a family and began his career as an electrician at Monsanto, John F. Queeny Plant. He retired in February of 2002. Ron also served his community for more than 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and lieutenant with the Antonia Fire District. He enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, playing cards and was always willing to lend a tool or helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ron was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.

Ron was the beloved father of Ron Thompson Jr., Jennifer (Tom) Beutenmiller and Amy (Eric) Huth, loving grandfather of Cecile (Kreg) Miller, Lizzy Cavazos, Cody Thompson, Josh (Julia) and Ethan Huth, Jake and Tanner Beutenmiller, and Jason, Grant and Gracie Gill; dearest brother of Joan Rock, Barbara (Neil) Dittlinger, Peggy Thompson, Brenda (Harlen) Guethle, Henry Thompson, Mike (Donna) Thompson, Randy (Jana) Thompson; dear godfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Earsel Joseph and Josephine Niederkorn Thompson, his son, Matthew Thompson, his grandson, Cole Beutenmiller, his brothers, Bud and Jimmy Thompson and sister, Jane Pfefferkorn.

Memorial mass will be at 10: a.m. on Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The BackStoppers inc. in memory of Ronald L. Thompson Sr.
