CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Roy F. Steger Jr., 74, of Chaffee passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at the family home. He was born Dec. 27, 1939, in St. Louis, to Roy Francis and Myrtle Elizabeth Chapel Steger Sr. He and Stella Irene Sadler were married Sept. 23, 1978. She preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2012...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Roy F. Steger Jr., 74, of Chaffee passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at the family home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1939, in St. Louis, to Roy Francis and Myrtle Elizabeth Chapel Steger Sr. He and Stella Irene Sadler were married Sept. 23, 1978. She preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2012.

Roy was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was a retired first mate with Midland Enterprises, having worked on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers during his career. He was a member of Chaffee Country CBers, Elks Lodge 1810, American Legion 389 and VFW Post 3127, all in Chaffee.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Rodney) Kirn of Jackson, Tina (John) Swinford of Chaffee and Linda Jo Hayes; two stepsons, Bobby (Anita) Schrum and Gary (Debbie) Schrum of Chaffee; four sisters, Mary Jo Schwettman and Linda Davis of Scott City, Janet Sullivan of Chaffee and Barbara Leming of Scott City; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Malvin Steger; two sisters, Ruth Feltmeyer and Donna Cook-Caksackkar; and a stepson, Ronald Schrum Sr.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. An Elks service will be held at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Bob Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery, with full military honors presented by Missouri Honor Guard.
