VIENNA, Ill. -- Seth Mathis, 86, of Vienna, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at his home.He was born May 8, 1913, in Cypress, Ill., son of John and Almeda Porter Mathis. He and Violet Cross were married. She died in 1994.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He worked as a custodian at Aurora College in Aurora, Ill., until retiring. He also had been a truck driver.Survivors include a daughter, Mariellen Vogt of Kansas City; two sons, Monte Mathis of Davenport, Iowa and Jerry Haynes of Seminole, Fla.; a sister, Velma Robinson of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alvin Thomas officiating. Graveside military rites will be held by Vienna VFW Post 5222. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Cypress.
