Sharon Eve Stausing was born May 12, 1948, in Cape Girardeau to Calvin C. and Glennetta Allen Vogelsang. Surrounded by her loving family, Sharon passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, in Cape Girardeau at the age of 75.
Sharon grew up in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Central High School in 1966. She was united in marriage to Sammy Taylor Stausing on May 22, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. The couple made their home in Cape Girardeau and moved to Union, Missouri, a short time later. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Dax and Dane.
After moving to Union, Sharon began working for her neighbor, Kenny Mundwiller. She enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry as an administrative assistant and customer service representative. She retired from SBI Insurance Agency in Union in 2015.
After retirement, Sharon worked part time as a visitation assistant at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union and Washington, Missouri.
She was active in her community for many years, and she continued to be active after retirement until her health declined. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 297 Auxiliary in Union and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 3838 Auxiliary in Cape Girardeau. Sharon loved to help with anything that would benefit veterans.
She was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ in Union. Her hobbies included taking trips with Sam, reading, sewing and doing anything she could with her grandchildren, such as ziplining, taking them to the movies and swimming. Sharon was also a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She will be missed.
She is survived by two sons, Dax Stausing and significant other, Elizabeth Montano, of St. Louis and Dane Stausing and wife, Julie, of Scott City; three grandchildren, Xander, Tabor and Zeira Stausing; three brothers, David Vogelsang and wife, Apryl of Grapevine, Texas, Steven Vogelsang of Cape Girardeau and Daniel Vogelsang and wife, Nancy, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Kathy Jo Alderman and husband, Russ, of Osprey, Florida; along with other relatives and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 48 years, Sam Stausing; parents, Calvin and Glennetta Vogelsang; and parents-in-law, Kathryn and John Roberts.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home, with Pastor Nicholas Knoblauch officiating. Interment will be held privately in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the grandchildren's education fund (checks payable to Dane Stausing) or the Sam Stausing Memorial Scholarship (checks payable to Union RXI Foundation).
