CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Shelby Jean Hamm, 72, of Chaffee, formerly of Commerce, Mo., died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 8, 1940, in Matthews, Mo., daughter of William Cape and Gertrude Tressie Duffell McVay,

She married William Douglas Hamm on July 5, 1961, at Oak Ridge. Shelby was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Doug; a brother, Billy McVay of Marble Hill, Mo.; and a sister, Marilyn Jansen of Leopold, Mo.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery near Commerce.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
