MONTE VISTA, Colo. -- Shirley McKee Marx passed away Monday, May 30, 2022, in Homelake.

She was born May 7, 1935, in Zalma, Missouri, and raised in Arab, Missouri, where her parents, Carl and Alfretta Rowe, farmed and owned/operated the general store.

She had four siblings, the late Webster Rowe, O'dean Grindstaat, the late Mary Gaither and Lillie Smith.

Shirley married Charles Avon McKee on July 15, 1953. They had a good life together raising their six children in Colorado. Later they moved to Texas, Florida and back to Arab, where they worked with their children -- Mary, Chuck, Mills, Kristy and Terry -- running the family store.

In 2005, Shirley and Charlie moved back to Colorado, where Charlie died in 2006. On July 15, 2017, Shirley married Herbert Marx. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, until October 2021, when they moved to Home Lake Veterans Center in Monte Vista, where Shirley died.

Shirley loved her family and enjoyed having them close. She loved homemaking, gardening, traveling and playing silly pranks, especially at Halloween.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Kristy Elliott and Teresa McClelland; husband, Charlie McKee; son-in-law, James Meyer; great-grandson, Toby McClelland; grandson, Lucas Newby; and son, Charles "Chuck" McKee Jr.

The family Shirley left behind includes her children, Mary Meyer, Cindy (Keith) Newby and Millard (Rhonda) McKee; daughter-in-law, Candace McKee; grandchildren, Dore Simmers, Jeane Abbas, Christa Stilts, Jeffery Elliott, Robert McClelland, Joshua McClelland, Emilya McClelland, Melissa Hayashi, Allison Logg and Sara LaVerne.

Shirley will be remembered with love and sadly missed by her family.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.
