CAIRO, Ill. -- Stella Mae Chandley, 86, of Cairo died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Daystar Care Center. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Blandville, Ky., daughter of George and Ruby Blanks Jenkins. She and Raymond Chandley were married in 1984. He preceded her in death...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Stella Mae Chandley, 86, of Cairo died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Daystar Care Center.

She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Blandville, Ky., daughter of George and Ruby Blanks Jenkins. She and Raymond Chandley were married in 1984. He preceded her in death.

Chandley owned and operated the 4th Street Tavern many years. She was a member of First Central Missionary Baptist Church and was active in civic and community activities.

Survivors include six nephews, Jerome Jenkins of Clinton, Ky., Timothy Jenkins of Mayfield, Ky., Thomas Jenkins of Bardwell, Ky., Robert Reddick, Edward Sims and Elbert Sims, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; four nieces, Mary Leveringston of Milwaukee, Celeste Emerson, Alberta White and Brenda Denson, all of Paducah, Ky.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Friday at First Central Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Lorenzo Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery.

Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
