Susan Renee Bening Niswonger, 61, of Jackson lost the battle with her autoimmune disease Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 26, 1961, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wayne William and Draunda Jo Welker Bening.

Susan was a 1979 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She loved many things, including crafting and being with her family, especially her mother. Susan was especially proud of her 23-year sobriety.

Loving survivors include her mother, Draunda Jo Bening of Jackson; three siblings, John Bening of Fort Myers, Florida, and Joe (Shelly) Bening and Debbie (the late Rob) Pensel, both of Cape Girardeau; four nephews, Josh (Mackenzie) Pensel of St. Louis, Tyler (Brook Anderson) Bening of Cape Girardeau, Blake (Chasity Watkins) Bening of Fort Myers and Jacob (Hannah Stempkovski) Bening of Cape Girardeau; and niece, Erika (Devon Wolpers) Bening; and great-niece, Raylee Jo Bening, both of Jackson.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Wayne William Bening.

Memorial visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 26, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A graveside service will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

The family suggests contributions be made to a church or charity of choice.
