Thelma Treece, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 22, 2015, at her home.

She was born March 10, 1923, in Deering, Missouri, to William and Lula Foster Barksdale. She and Hyder Treece were married Oct. 18, 1947, at Sikeston, Missouri. He preceded her in death in November 1966.

Thelma had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1968. She had lived in Charleston, Missouri, before moving to Peoria, Illinois, in 1949 and then moved to Cape Girardeau in 1968.

She graduated from Deering High School in 1943. Thelma had been a secretary at Central Foods and the Area Agency on Aging. Her hobbies included quilting, flower gardening and reading.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda J. (Amos) Bolton of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Hurbert (Jean) Barksdale of Westland, Michigan, and Bill (Dathel) Barksdale of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Wesley Bolton and Emily (Mike) Smart of Cape Girardeau; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Allison Smart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Edgar, Horace and Richard Barksdale; and three sisters, Marie Mehner, Margaret James and Nina Phillips.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Austin Holiman officiating. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Benton, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Church of Christ, 328 S. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau, MO 63703.
