Thomas Holshouser

Thomas C. Holshouser, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 1, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, to Charlie and Velma Allen Holshouser. He and Judith S. Gleason were married July 15, 1966, in Cape Girardeau.

Tom graduated from Central High School in 1957. He attended the pre-engineering program at Southeast Missouri State University, and graduated from Rankin Technical Institute with an architectural drafting-design degree in 1963.

He was employed by John Boardman and Tom Phillips. He obtained his Missouri architectural license in 1971 and opened his own practice in the fall of 1971. During his years of practice, nearly 750 projects were completed. He retired from practice April 30, 2010.

Tom served on the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee many years and also served on the City Planning and Zoning Commission 15 years. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club and Cape Jaycees, continuing to participate in the Exhausted Rooster socials. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and was named Outstanding Member in 2009. He also held memberships in the SEMO Harley Owners Group and TPA.

Aside from his organizations and involvements, he truly enjoyed boating, motorcycle riding, gardening, discussions with friends at the pancake house and hosting parties.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Holshouser; a daughter, Kimberly (Brian) Link of St. Louis; and two grandchildren, William Thomas and Anna Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to build homes in the St. Andrew fishing village in Haiti.
