Born July 31, 1933, in Millersville to Thomas B. and Mildred I. Stearns Miller, he was one of four children. Tom married Jo Diane Wise, and they had three children, Beverly, Dana and Thomas J. He later married Theresa Hotop, and they had two children, Tim and Traci.

Tom was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from March 1953 to April 1954.

After returning from his military service, he worked several years at Marquette Cement plant, and then worked more than 40 years as a rural mail carrier for the post office in Jackson. Tom also row-copped and usually kept a few cattle, too.

In recent years, he enjoyed the company of Mary Ruth Friedrich-Wheaton. Together, they liked to spot and chase hot air balloons for Mary Ruth's brother, Jon Friedrich. Mary Ruth passed away March 5, 2019.
