Thomas E. Phillips, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born March 30, 1927, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, to William and Florence Hill Phillips. He and Willorene Davis were married Oct. 12, 1973, at Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was an architect for the HOK architectural firm in St. Louis before coming to Cape Girardeau and starting Thomas Phillips and Associates Architectural Firm in 1965. He designed Chateau Girardeau and was the on-site supervisor for the renovation of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau and many other structures in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois, including many of the First Federal Savings and Loan buildings. He retired in 1998.

Tom loved to fly-fish at Rockbridge, Missouri. He was a member and an avid golfer at the Cape Girardeau Country Club. He was a past president of the Cape Girardeau Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Willorene Phillips of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Mark Thomas (Becky) Phillips of Dallas and Clay Phillips of Springfield, Missouri; a daughter, Lisa (Doug) Renfroe of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
