Thurman F. "Doc" Matthews, 85, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Doc was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Beaufort, Mo., to Gilpin L. and Emma Brockmann Matthews.
He attended Southeast Missouri State University. He owned Cape County Feed and Supply and was one of the original owners of Jaymac Equipment Co.
Doc was a veteran of World War II.
He married Janet Anne Clark on Aug. 8, 1948. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by five children, Gail (Ken) Kailing of Seattle, Guy (Sandy) Matthews of Reedsburg, Wis., Lee Ann (Bob) Watson of Cape Girardeau, Lois (Mike) Geary of Baraboo, Wis., Arthur (Alfonso Davalos) Matthews of Apache Junction; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Sept. 12 in Sun City.
Superstition Funeral Home in Sun City was in charge of arrangements.
