PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Urban L. Winschel, 81, of Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the veterans home.

He was born May 17, 1925, in Perryville, son of August A. and Helen T. Ernst Winschel.

Winschel had been a diesel mechanic. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Apple Creek, Mo., American Legion Post 133, and Western Catholic Union.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include four sisters, Clara Buchheit and Mary Helen Newell of Perryville, Catherine Klump and Loretta Paulus of St. Louis; three brothers, Hubert and Bernard Winschel of Perryville, and Albin Winschel of St. Ann, Mo.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and Saturday from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by an American Legion service. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Apple Creek, with the Rev. Tony Dattilo officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at Apple Creek, with graveside military honors courtesy of American Legion Post 133.
