Vernetta Maxine "Babe" Hitt, 84, of Scott City died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Yates, Ill., to Noble and Maude Boucherie Vaughan. She married Roby William Hitt Jan. 26, 1947, in Pattonville, Mo. He preceded her in death Nov. 13, 2005.

Hitt was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Mike (Ellie) Hitt of Searcy, Ark., Steve (Mary) Hitt of Scott City; a sister, Norma Mayer of Bridgeton, Mo.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with Larry Dunger officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
