Vernita B. Gettings, 88, of Chaffee, Mo., died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 7, 1921, in New Hamburg, Mo., daughter of William and Bertha K. Kern. She and Jesse H. Gettings were married Oct. 10, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1989.

She retired as a sewing machine operator at Florsheim Shoes in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, daughters of St. Ambrose and Ladies Auxiliary, also of Chaffee.

Survivors include a daughter, Carla (David) Hansieben of Bridgeton, Mo.; a sister, Sylvia Steimie of New Hamburg, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a son, three brothers, two grandsons and one great grandson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to time of the service Wednesday at St. Ambrose church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating.
