Vickie Jean May, 59, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Southeast Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born July 20, 1963, in Cape Girardeau to Leland Eugene and Barbara Joan Gooch May. When she was a young child, her parents moved to Rockford, Illinois, were she was raised with her siblings.
She was a graduate of Harlem High School in Loves Park, Illinois. After graduation, she moved back to Cape Girardeau, where she resided for almost 40 years. She was a server for Cracker Barrel for 30 years and was a hairstylist before that. She loved raising her grandchildren and helping others. She was always willing to give with nothing in return and took pride in supporting her neighborhood and community. She was a strong person and her grandchildren were her life.
Survivors include significant other, Douglas Dowling (aka "Her Other Half"), of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Candy Seaworth of Cape Girardeau; son, Steven May of Cape Girardeau; sister, Sherry (Rick) Smith; brother, Lee (Donna) May; five grandchildren, Ayanna Depree, Aurora May, Aaron Wren, Jordan Smith and Jasmine Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
