CHAFFEE -- Virgil Clyde Asher, 83, of Chaffee, died Wednesday, July 28, 1993, in Scott City.

He was born July 8, 1910, at St. James, son of Jasper Lee and Asbrene Elizabeth Mitchell Asher. He and Goldie Elizabeth McBride LaCroix were married Nov. 4, 1978.

Asher was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jim, David, Mickey and Kenny Asher, all of St. Louis; two daughters, Deloris Dexter and Charlotte Grissdrock of St. Louis; a stepson, Edward LaCroix of Syracuse, N.Y.; four stepdaughters, Carol Matteson of Bothell, Wash., Maujeva Harrell of Chaffee, Dee Benson and Margaret Milligan of Scott City; a brother, Marion Asher of Kirkwood; a sister, Velma Holt of Steelville; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren, and six great-stepgrandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel here. The Revs. Bill Dickey and Maurice Eagan will officiate, with burial in Union Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.
