DONGOLA, Ill. -- Wayne Etherton, 88, of Dongola died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

He was born March 8, 1909, in Williamson County, son of Grover Jackson and Sarah Ellen Gibson Etherton. He and Lillian Archer were married March 21, 1941.

Etherton was a chemist with Union Carbide, and had also been a teacher. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dongola and Anna Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Etherton of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a sister, Ruby Owens of Livonia, Mich.; a brother, Earl Etherton of Dongola; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, and three sisters.

Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 4-8 p.m. today, and Sunday from noon to service time at First Lutheran Church. Masonic service will be at 7 tonight.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with Pastor Donald Poole officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery, with graveside rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.
