Wilber E. Briggs, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born May 23, 1934, in St. Clair, Ill., son of Jack W. and Alice Blackbarn Briggs. He and Ermal L. Mouser were married 41 years. She preceded him in death.
Briggs was employed at Winer Steel 24 years. He was a member of United Steel Workers of America Local 2018.
Survivors include a son, Darrel Briggs of McClure, Ill.; a daughter, Estell McClatchey of Cape Girardeau; six brothers, Leonard Briggs of St. John, Raymond Briggs of McClure, Ill., Robert "Bob" Briggs of Waycross, Ga., Bill Briggs of Montgomery City, Charlie Briggs of Moscow Mills, Daniel Briggs of St. Peters; four sisters, Mary Rebstock and Wanda Adams of St. Louis, Nancy Pauck of Fredericktown, Caroline Whittington of St. Peters; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister and stepmother.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 4:30-8 p.m. Sunday, and Monday after 8 a.m.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Doyle W. Randol officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
