PERRYVILLE -- Funeral Mass for William H. "Bill" Ponder of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek. The Rev. Terry Borgerding will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Friday from 6:30-9:30 a.m. The parish wake service is at 7 tonight, followed by an American Legion service at 7:15. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Friday...

Ponder, 74, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 4, 1923, at Apple Creek, son of William and Claire Trapp Ponder. He and Helen Louise Kline were married Oct. 14, 1947, at Apple Creek.

Ponder was a retired carpenter. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and its men's organization, and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Paul, Edward and Leroy Ponder of Perryville, Richard Ponder of Kokomo, Ind.; four daughters, Shirley Burroughs of Altenburg, Margie Kasten of Uniontown, Charlotte Arneson and Connie Kaempfe of Perryville.

Also surviving are three sisters, Luella Degenhardt and Mary Robinson of Perryville, Antonia Naumann of St. Louis; three brothers, Martin Ponder of St. Louis, Raymond Ponder of Jackson, Tony Ponder of Perryville; 20 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, a brother and sister.
