I am writing to bring attention to the possible relocation of the Food Giant in Chaffee to a site on Highway 77.
I live across the highway from the proposed site. I strongly oppose this move.
This is a heavily traveled highway, The entrances and exits would be dangerous since there are no stop signs. The noise of stop-and-go traffic along with the squealing of brakes would be unbearable. I foresee a lot of accidents.
The Scott County Ambulance Service is a few miles south of the proposed site. I don't want to think about the danger when they travel through here at a high rate of speed.
There are small children in the neighborhood, and a supermarket parking lot is what predators like. I would be fearful for the children and for my safety.
The lights at night would attract millions of bugs. This would be a health hazard for residents living nearby.
There would be litter in our yards. Who will pick this up? Look where the trash winds up at the current location. Trash bins would attract rodents, and there would be an odor in the summer, which would be unbearable to surrounding neighbors.
There are a lot of other suitable places in Chaffee to build a supermarket, including the downtown area. I hope Food Giant will respect my neighbors and me and reconsider building in a more suitable place.
