You might say Cape Girardeau's downtown has color -- especially on Saturday when the Color Me Cape 5K made its way to the area.

More than 2,000 people participated in the race, which was not about time but about the experience and raising money for good organizations.

The participants made their way along the route as people doused them with colorful cornstarch. By the end, it was a rainbow of colors covering the runners. You can see photos that ran in Sunday's Southeast Missourian and in an online photo gallery at semissourian.com.

Color Me Cape raises money for the Safe House for Women, Discovery Playhouse children's museum and Howard Aslinger Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

These events bring flair, philanthropy and good community fun. It's an opportunity to draw residents and those outside the area to Cape Girardeau's downtown and to visit some of the merchants here and around the community.

Thank you to all who participated.
