One of the joys of spring is the return of farmers markets.

Last month the Cape Farmers Market kicked off its season at the Plaza Galleria parking lot. The weekly market is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

A second farmers market for Cape Girardeau began last year. The Cape Riverfront Market reportedly will bring more than 30 vendors to the downtown area. The 2013 season for the market begins Saturday in the parking lot at 35 S. Spanish St. It will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 26.

The Jackson Farmers Market will begin Tuesday. Held from 3 to 6 p.m. weekly in the band shelter parking lot at Jackson City Park, the market will continue through September.

Many local people go to great lengths to provide a variety of locally grown or produced products for these events. Items range from fresh bakery goods and other sweets to fruits and vegetables, among the products. In addition to supporting local vendors, these markets also contribute to an important community atmosphere.

We hope you consider attending and supporting these enjoyable events.
