LETTERS: PRESIDENTIAL VOLUNTEERS

To the editor:

The recent visit of President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore to Capaha Park gave Missourians the opportunity to witness history in the making. President Clinton's decision to kick off his re-election campaign in Cape Girardeau was a real honor for all Southeast Missourians. It was a historic day, for it was the first-ever visit of a sitting Democratic president to the area.

In addition, community support for the president was outstanding, with an estimated attendance of 30,000 people. This is quite an impressive number for a town of 36,000. It will go down in the Clinton-Gore record books as one of the most memorable events in this campaign.

The event was possible because of the dedication of countless volunteers. I am writing on behalf of the Democratic Coordinated Campaign to thank each and every person who helped. From medical personnel to university and community volunteers, everyone did a tremendous job. Each gesture made in support of this wonderful event is remembered and greatly appreciated. Thank you, Southeast Missouri.
