To the editor:
I am an 18-year-old male. Young people such as myself should have hobbies. I have one that is being looked upon with great prejudice by many individuals, including the city of Cape. My hobby is aggressive rollerblading.
I don't understand why there is so much prejudice toward skaters. A short time ago, this very same newspaper took a photograph of a skater down on the riverfront. The picture ended up on the front page.
Many skaters, including myself, don't go down to the river to skate. But because of the publicity, shortly afterward a sign was put up that specifically stated no skateboarding or rollerblading.
What is upsetting me is the fact that the city condones bike riding and jet skiers. Not everyone is like this. Some people watch us and also talk to us. I think the city and everyone out there who hates us needs to remember that we also have rights.
