To the editor:
Bouquets to Lanie Black of Charleston for agreeing to run for state representative from our area. How we need people of his character, intellect, decency and civic-mindedness to enter politics.
I've watched him, among many others, ever since he was a youngster, a Boy Scout and high school student. I was please when he married Ann Cox, daughter of the Manford Coxes, one of Charleston's finest young women. I've seen him as an active church and community leader and businessperson. He uses his talents, excellent education and good common sense to benefit others.
He knows this are of the state, its needs, its problems in agriculture and business and schools and related situations, as well as the people -- all kinds of people, black and white, rich and poor. He understands what's going on in this world and is compassionate. He is so well qualified.
He will represent all citizens fairly and honestly, not only those now living, but children yet unborn, to protect their world in days to come. He wants to ensure right decisions by this generation, without greed, to keep their children and grandchildren in mind. "Yes," of course, to those who really need help, but "no" to political perks, government waste and abuse of personal power.
You can elect Lanie Black, relax and sleep nights knowing you don't have to be uneasy about his character and self-discipline and goals. He can be trusted. He's young and energetic. He's a Christian gentleman who practices what he preaches. And if we ever needed his kind in politics, it's now.
He's smart and flexible enough to know what's bad about the good old days and what's bad about the New Age of today. Also, what's good about both periods. And he can be trusted. He doesn't lie. He doesn't need to. His word is as good as his bond, as the old saying goes.
Just put your mark by Lanie's name on the ballot, and you'll do yourself, our state, country and the world a favor.
MRS. ART L. WALLHAUSEN SR.
