To the editor:

Once again I was enthralled by the wonderful music and talent of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and its conductor, Robert Gifford. The Oct. 13 performance was another piece of excellence. For almost an hour I was about to forget about the presidential scandal and economic woes which are in the news each day and be immersed in the wonderful musical selections that were presented. I am always bewildered by the lack of attendance at these concerts. Nevertheless, this did not hinder the enthusiasm and heartfelt effort made by the members of the wind ensemble. This did not surprise me, however, as passion and ebullience are the chief characteristics of Gifford, the conductor. My thanks to the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music for making this happening available to our community.
