Scott County voters will consider two sales tax measures on April 1.

The county government is seeking a quarter-cent sales tax to avoid deficits in county spending. Revenue would be used for such general expenses as bridge repairs, salaries, restoring the reserve fund and other programs and equipment needed in the county.

In addition, a quarter-cent sales tax is also being sought to endow a Senior Citizen Services Fund. Revenue would be used to improve and expand services to residents age 60 and older, including transportation, nutrition centers and other programming.

Both requests deserve studious consideration from county residents. Only 10 days remain before the election. Voters should get informed on the pros and cons of these pressing issues before casting their ballots April 1.
