Political parties are OK TO TAKE the political parties out of politics is wrong. The parties are made up of people who have the same ideology. We come together as a group for common ideas. Every group does this, whether they are political or not. There is no guarantee what candidate will get money when you donate to a committee. But people donate because they believe in their party. I think House Bill 237 is wrong. If you want to limit money, let the people vote to do so...

Political parties are OK

TO TAKE the political parties out of politics is wrong. The parties are made up of people who have the same ideology. We come together as a group for common ideas. Every group does this, whether they are political or not. There is no guarantee what candidate will get money when you donate to a committee. But people donate because they believe in their party. Missed the casino boat

CAPE GIRARDEAU missed out by not letting the casino boat come in. We're from Cape. We go to church in Cape. We work in Cape. But we go two times a week to Caruthersville, Mo., and also take the bus to Metropolis, Ill., to the casino. You'd be surprised at all the people we see from Cape and Jackson. When we go to Caruthersville, there's always a lot of people from Cape. Just because some of the people in Cape didn't want a casino in Cape doesn't stop the people who want to go gamble. They still go other places to gamble. That's why I think that Cape missed out a lot.

The French connection

SOMEONE suggested we listen to France when it comes to Iraq. Wake up. There are six million Muslims in France. The leadership of France is looking for re-election, not Iraq's violations of the U.N. sanctions. And there are billion-dollar oil deals and investments. France will do anything Iraq suggests.

A nice addition

I JUST want to say what a nice addition the new LaCroix Village makes to our community. I hope Cape Girardeau can continue to expand in such a beautiful way.

Baring too much

I AGREE with the comment about the scanty attire that many of the teenage girls wear at the mall. It's amazing their parents let them go out dressed that way. Just remember: What you're willing to bare, you may be willing to share.

Early decision

WHAT IS wrong with our school system here in Cape Girardeau? The roads are covered with snow. In the morning, the roads are going to be frozen. We have to wait until morning to find out whether school will be open. This isn't convenient for people who work at night and get to bed in the morning. There is something wrong with the school district if it can't tell you the night before.

A late start

THE CAPE Girardeau schools are out again, and this snow is just not that bad. Schools could have opened a couple of hours late. Everybody knows that people up in Michigan go to school all winter long, and it snows a lot up there. We can go to school here when it snows too. Just start a couple of hours late.

Helping neighbors

PEOPLE CARE about people in Jackson. I looked outside my front door Feb. 24 and saw my neighbor shoveling her next-door neighbor's snow. How nice. These people are older and sick. It's so great to live in Jackson.

Downtown toilets

I WOULD like to thank the person who brought up the delicate subject of a lack of restroom facilities in downtown Cape Girardeau. I love to browse the antique and specialty shops there but hesitate to shop there for that very reason. I would think the business owners would be a little embarrassed to have tourists come in asking for a restroom and be shown a toilet in a storage room as I have had to use at times.

Let parents drive

LET'S GIVE the parents what they want. Open schools on snow days but have no bus service. Let the parents drive the slick, back streets and country roads to see that their children get an education. Maybe the parents will be the ones who are educated.
