Bad dresser
I SAW the rendition of what's supposed to be Lorimier on the new mural panel, but I'm sorry, they have him dressed wrong. It's doubtful he wore buckskins decorated as a Plains Indian would have decorated such clothing. I do believe that he would have dressed more in breaches, shirts and waistcoats. True, he wore a queue, but possibly it was not braided. Just wanted you to know that, if you are going to put something that is going to last for posterity, then be historically accurate.
Tax recipient
I WOULD like to make a comment on paying child support. The person who pays child support, when he sends that check, that money came from a payroll check, and the taxes were held out. When the person receives that check, the money is tax free. I wish that Missouri would start taxing the person who receives the check. I think it's an unfair system, because the working person should get a tax deduction over the whole situation.
Need report
I WOULD appreciate it if the Southeast Missourian would continue including the allergy report on a daily basis. This information is valuable to those of us who suffer from allergies.
Speak English
THERE ARE people worried about immigrant children having problems with English in Cape Girardeau schools and speaking their native language at home. That is the problem. If people want to come to the United States, that's great. Everyone's ancestors are not Indian. But they ought to speak our language at home, and everywhere else, the best they can. Going back and forth to their native language is not acceptable.
Combat callers
IF TELEMARKETERS are not going to give up and keep harassing us, then I have two things to combat them. You can leave your answering machine on to screen calls. They don't leave a message because they don't want you to call them. Or, when I pick up the phone and it's a telemarketer, then I lay the phone down and let them go about their chatter.
It's sad
I THINK it's pretty sad that a couple of judges said that you can't have a no-call list for telemarketers. They run you crazy 24 hours a day. I think this business has been used and abused badly by people. It's time to pass this list and tell these two judges to shut up.
Not a curse
A COLUMN said Hillary's curse is living in Bill's shadow, but both are master manipulators. We won't forget the Whitewater scandal. If she tells lies to the American people enough times, then she thinks we will believe it that her husband was responsible for the good economy, never mind he was a product of the Republicans before him and he got to coast in when nothing major was going on like it is for Mr. Bush and his presidency.
Caring educators
I READ with interest the article today in the Southeast Missourian today about English as a Second Language students in the Cape Girardeau public schools, and I wanted to say that it was another example of how teachers, administrators and other personnel who love kids will accommodate differences in the classroom because they care. I thought it was an excellent article.
Credit discount
IT USED to be with businesses, when you went in to buy something and paid cash, you got a discount. Let me tell you, times have changed. I was standing in a store paying full price with cash, and a woman comes and flaunts a credit card. The cashier said, "Oh, you get an extra 10 percent off." We should go back to the old-fashioned way: When you pay cash, you get a discount. When you use credit, you pay more.
Not Christian
THE LIBERALS continue to attack and remove anything referring to God from our government, schools, public places and so forth. The Democratic Party now has an agenda of being liberal and in control. So tell me, in all honesty, if any true Christian can vote Democrat nowadays. Some Republicans are no different. We might just take God out of the currency, too.
