Rusty walkway

The walkway over Highway 74 is a big eyesore. Instead of looking rustic, it looks rusted. I do not like it at all.

Line prevented voting

I TOOK a cab to vote. I use a walker. When I got to the polling place, voters were lined up. I could not stand and wait, so I came back in the cab. Someone offered to pick me up and take me to vote. I said I couldn't stand in line. So some of us didn't get to vote because the line was so long. None of those people was nice enough to let me go ahead and vote.

Immoral T-shirts

I WAS in Cape Girardeau looking for clothes for my 10-year-old son. One of the top name-brand stores was selling T-shirts his size with some really nasty wording on them. I was disgusted that this store would stoop so low. No wonder our children have no morals.

Long-term results

THE SPEAK Out caller who said AIDS could be wiped out if everyone used a condom is wrong. How many babies were conceived while a condom was worn? Condoms won't provide absolute protection from AIDS or any other venereal disease. The only answer is abstinence before marriage and total fidelity afterwards. Anything less than that won't work. And I don't want to hear that it is impossible to be abstinent before marriage and totally faithful afterwards. There are millions of people, including myself, who will testify that it is not only possible, but will provide lifelong protection against sexually transmitted diseases and will provide one with a loving relationship that can last through eternity.

Church politics

RESPONDING TO the comment regarding the political fliers on cars in the parking lot at church: I find it much more offensive for church leaders to use the pulpit to promote a political party. This was done in the church where I am member. This type of behavior is inappropriate and alienates those with differing views. I no longer attend church as a result.

Movie impressions

TO THE parents who took their young children to see the movie "Saw": Shame on you. What were you thinking? The movie is rated R for "strong grisly violence and language." Do you realize these images are forever impressed into their memories?

Thanks for help

ON BEHALF of the workers at Wal-Mart and the shoppers that were there Monday morning, I would like to say thank you to the officers and firefighters who came out to help us during the craziness. Thank you again.

Take down signs

WITH THE election finally over, I plead to the candidates to please pick up your signs. We already have enough roadside trash and billboards.

Shots for employees

I WORK at Procter & Gamble and feel it will be a hard blow for the employees if they get the flu. There are many people there that this could effect. Employees should have been given the flu shots that were promised to us.

Glad it's over

THANK GOD. No more back stabbing and no more political signs littering our roads and highways. I'm so glad it's over.

Prevent the problem

I AGREE with "Try birth control." It would save us from the argument of abortion. And for those who argue about religions not approving birth control, there is a such thing as natural family planning that works just as well. Even if you don't believe in birth control, do you really think abortion is better? I think it's time for everyone to grow up and take responsibility. If you prevent the problem from happening, you don't have to kill innocent children for your mistake.

Seek custody

IN RESPONSE to "Welfare of the Child": You can get temporary custody of your grandchild. My best friend went through it with her daughter. She has custody of her grandchild, and thank God she does. Call the Division of Family Services, which should be able to tell you who to call. Or get a lawyer.
