Praise for columnist

COMMON-SENSE conservative columnist Paul Greenberg is a cut above the ideological conservatives whose columns often cover most of the Southeast Missourian's Opinion page. For example, Greenberg recently praised president-elect Obama for his "determination to govern rather than continue campaigning." And, further, "In the spirit of Lincoln in his critical times, he's proceeding to form a team of rivals." You'd never hear this from the ideologues who invade the Opinion page on regular basis.

Harboring criminals

PEOPLE WHO won't disclose who stabbed them or shot them and people who won't disclose where suspects are hiding are protecting the criminals. I can't understand why law enforcement doesn't pursue people who harbor known criminals. I think we're too lax.

Studying mathematics

YOUNG PEOPLE might want to consider studying mathematics. Mathematics teaches one to think logically. It also enables one to understand all of the possibilities of a given matter at hand. Mathematics is a language that is used in every science. It is knowledge as well as a beautiful accomplishment of man.

Others worse off

MY MAIN source of income is Social Security. I got a job that pays $500 in a month. Because of this I lost my HUD subsidy and my food stamps. I have a car payment and pay my own medical expenses. I can't get help because I'm not sick enough to be in a nursing home. I'm single and have no children. I get tired and sad, but I think of all the people who are worse off. God has blessed me.

Downtown lights

CONCERNING THE Christmas decorations downtown that Old Town Cape has put up: We took out-of-town guests to Cape County Park to view the lights, which were beautiful. Then we took them downtown to look at the new Christmas decorations that we had read about. There obviously wasn't a lot research done on these lights. They should have used red lights instead of white. You can't see the white lights on the wreaths because of the bright street lights. We get new lights, and they're not much better than decorations in previous years. I am sorry to have to complain, because I would love to have lights that we had years ago that were beautiful.

Election is over

I JUST read David Limbaugh's column. I can't believe the Southeast Missourian would print something so hateful. The election is over. We have a new president. Live with it. Stop carrying on about the best health care in the world. Much of our country doesn't have access to health care.
