WHEN I read about neglect to our veterans, I was shocked to see what percentage of the budget that goes to foreign countries and how much will be deducted from programs here. The Bible says those who don't take care of their families first are worse than idiots. We are the family of America. Don't take our Social Security money and give it to foreign countries...Foreign aid

Choices
I agree with many people about this medicine for colds. You have to get a prescription in some of these towns in order to get it. We do not have a choice now. And the drug dealers, they have a choice. They don't have to use these drugs. They have a choice, but we do not.
Leave it to states
YOU know what would be nice, if the president of the United States would stick to trying to run our country and get us out of debt and quit worrying about Wisconsin and Arizona. These states have their own leaders. They both have a governor and a legislature.
Prop B
SENATOR Crowell, as a highly educated voter, I was not duped by Proposition B. I knew exactly what I was voting for.
Smoking deaths
IT has been said that if tobacco never existed, lung-related illness would still be a major cause of death. We breathe in all kinds of things besides tobacco smoke that are harmful. That's why it's reckless to throw around all these so-called scientific estimates of secondhand smoke deaths.
Traffic cameras
RECENTLY while sitting at a stoplight in Cape Girardeau (at Mount Auburn and Bloomfield Road) three cars ran the light turning east onto Bloomfield Road. Their light was red for several seconds and they proceeded to dangerously run the light. Traffic cameras at several intersections are a very good idea.
Republican control
Republicans want it all. They have their tax breaks and hardly pay any, even being millionaires. Only the middle class and the poor are suffering. Now they want to break the unions so they have complete control of America, of which they have destroyed with eight years of President Bush.
Cat nuisance
CAT owners, please keep your animals in your own yard. No pets are to run free and go into your neighbors' yards and flower beds or climb on cars and trucks or under porches or on roofs of homes. This is a nuisance.
Tax cuts work
IT has been consistently shown that cutting taxes stimulates the economy and results in increased government revenue. The "wealthy" pay over 70 percent of the monies taken in by the government. The "wealthy" are the ones who create jobs. If you don't believe it, try getting a job from a poor person.

Sewer plant
HOW will building a new sewer plant take care of rain infiltration in old sewer lines? How about spending that money where it should have been spent the last time we paid for sewer improvements? I seem to remember a big project a few years back that was supposed to take care of combined sewers and rain infiltration. It doesn't look like it worked that well. The new treatment plant will be a Band-Aid on the real problem.
Spending problem
THE Republicans want to cut spending, which will help reduce the massive debt. The Democrats, on the other hand, want to give to everybody and anybody, even illegal immigrants. It's spending like that which will keep us from getting out of debt.
Not GOP's fault
ON Feb. 23 a Speak Out comment titled "GOP Solution" said that Republicans decreased FICA taxes on Jan. 1, 2011 to fix Social Security. The Republicans held a majority in neither the House or Senate, and there was not a Republican in the White House on January 1, 2011. How exactly was this a Republican solution?
Smoke-free time
IT is time, Cape Girardeau residents, to do the right thing. Making our air smoke-free is the right thing to do.
Dems problem
HOW is the financial shape of this country the Republicans' fault? Democrats have had control of Congress for eight years. Why would you want it to keep going in the direction it is now?
Cigarette butts
IT'S not nitpicking to complain about one person throwing a cigarette out their car window. Have you not seen the mess at most intersections? Piles of cigarette butts alongside the curbs, and it started with one person throwing their cigarette butt out the window. It's a disgrace for anyone to see.
Capaha museum
I think a museum at Capaha Park is a wonderful idea. My family has traveled many times to the one at Farmington. It is great. Have it the same as Farmington's with a lot of interactive stations and a short film of the area's history. What a perfect idea.
Roller Girls
I went to watch the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls play recently at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. I have to say that they were incredible to watch. It was intense and fun. My only complaint is that they need more space. Please get a bigger venue. And keep up the good work. You girls look awesome.
Not unions' fault
Does the Republican Party really expect Americans to blame the union worker for all the budget problems in America? I think the "too big to fails" are a much larger problem in America then the union worker is.
