Road safety

AS we all know, Scott County police do not make any effort to patrol rural roads, which are riddled with drunks, illegal ATVs and farm equipment that is so large that it hangs over both sides of these narrow roads. Not one of the many farmers who drive such dangerous equipment have proper vehicles in front/back to warn oncoming traffic of the danger they are posing. Farmers don't think they need to follow these legal guidelines. These roads are narrow, curvy and have no yellow line to mark boundaries. Once again Scott County police, the rural residents are begging. Please help, these roads need to be safer. It's becoming deadly.

Alcohol tax

WHILE we are raising taxes for "sin" items, let's raise the tax on alcohol as well. The Missouri tax for such items is the lowest in the states, and has not seen an increase in almost 40 years. Alcohol has been the cause of more deaths and violence than cigarettes could ever cause. While we are talking about sin, let's put a stop to people on welfare buying junk food with our tax dollars. No more will they be allowed to blow their allotment on snack cakes, candy, soda and other non-nutritional items. Now, how about we just double the tax on everything we consume across the board, that way nobody is singled out and the state can have so much more money to blow on useless projects and research. Oppression, taxation, the government telling us what we can and cannot consume ... I thought we took care of this problem back in the late 1700s.

Pseudoephedrine

IF the Missouri Legislature fails to impose a statewide ban on pseudoephedrine without a doctor's prescription, I will, from that point forward, think of our state Capitol building as no more than a large meth lab.

Obama's silence

WHY is President Obama so silent on the Trayvon Martin situation? He is deliberately allowing the race-baiters, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the Black Panthers to set the tone and to try to create broad racial division where it doesn't really exist. If ever there was a time for a real leader to step forth and be the voice of reason, now is that time. But, as usual, when America really needs him to show leadership, President Obama is busy weighing the political benefits of remaining silent.
