I was just wondering how many people who regularly eat out, really look at where they are eating. Sometimes the places are very dirty. Look around and see where you're eating and how clean it is. Great story about the happy village, Joe. Sounds like our tax-and-spend Congress. Just wait until they get the bill for the sewer tax, which will be twice as much...

Sullivan column

Great story about the happy village, Joe. Sounds like our tax-and-spend Congress. Just wait until they get the bill for the sewer tax, which will be twice as much.

Traffic problem

I think it's interesting the city continues to ignore the traffic on the corner of Sprigg Street and New Emerald across the street from the Show Me Center. How about a traffic signal at that corner? Someone will get killed at that corner soon and the city's talking about a dog park.

Social Security

Leave our Social Security alone. If we lose that we'll lose our country and we'll all go together.

Park name

Perhaps the commissioners should change the name of county parks to the "Cape Girardeau County Commissioners Park."

Democratic Party

I think the Democratic Party should call themselves the HAT party, "homosexuals, abortions and taxes." It's all they stand for, and they're for low information voters.

Inflation

I would like to answer the person who asked what would happen if the national debt couldn't get paid. We'll have runaway inflation. Read what happened in Germany. There will be riots. There have been people who haven't worked in eight generations. These people know nothing about working. At that point, there will have to be a strong leader step up and the things you'll see and experience will make the hair stand up. The wealthy people will be able to figure out what to do; they didn't get wealthy by being stupid. They can hide their wealth but everyone else will only get a meal every two days.

Fireworks show

What a shame, the city council in 2009 could not afford to put on the 4th of July fireworks show for $25,000. Now they're saying with $300,000 a month coming from the casino, they still can't afford it. Way to go, our patriotic city leaders.

Track meets

I'm glad Notre Dame and Jackson were smart enough not schedule track meets during the Easter holiday. Way to go once again, Cape Central.

Limbaugh, marriage

Rush Limbaugh softened his tone on illegal drug use after his own arrest on drug charges a few years back and subsequent battles with addiction. Yet, after three divorces he stands firm on his traditional views of marriage.

Identity crisis

The potential disappearance of Cape's postmark is perhaps the final indicator that we have long been suffering a collective identity crisis, one from which we will never recover.

King comments

Speaking on a radio program, Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, ripped into President Obama for sending his daughters, Sasha and Malia, on a vacation while the federal government is being squeezed by the so-called sequester. How many days has this Congress taken off? They don't count their time. Probably because of the simple reason they don't do anything but campaign anyway. Oh, it doesn't cost anything for the trips that they themselves are making. That is what they want us to believe.

Mail, banks

I can do without mail service on Saturday, but I do wish the banks were open longer on Saturday.
