THANK YOU for the sidewalks on Cape Rock Drive, I just hope the city continues them on to Kingshighway. What a nice addition to the street.
MILLIONS OF dollars were spent on the Kingshighway repaving project. For some reason, when the sun goes down and the road is wet, one can't see the lines. I can't count the number of times I have been nearly sideswiped due to this problem. A little reflective material would go a long way.
SOMEONE SUGGESTED kids haul hay so they aren't bored and learn the value of a dollar. We live on a farm, and most of our friends are farmers, and I can assure you that almost nobody hires kids to haul hay anymore and hasn't for years. We make round bales now. It takes only two workers to make the bales and haul them.
JACKSON HAS one of the nicest and largest parks in the county with the most amenities for children of all ages. There are several areas with swings and slides and Safety City for children with bikes. There are a fishing lake, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts and a skate park Jackson City Park is great.
THERE IS a need for a community college in Cape Girardeau. Several of the programs at the Career and Technology Center are associate-degree programs. However, the associate degree comes from Mineral Area Community College. Would it not be beneficial to have a degree-granting organization in Cape Girardeau for these areas of study?
JACKSON CITY Park is a nice park. It has Safety City, where small children can ride their bikes. There is a slide and swing set as well. Memorial Park has a playground and a memorial wall.

SALUTATIONS TO the Southeast Missourian for publishing Yogi Berra's commencement speech to the graduates of St. Louis University. A careful reading, rereading and reading once again of Yogi's words of wisdom reveal more truths in that one address than in all the other tedious and tiresome commencement addresses combined.
MANY PEOPLE complain about teacher salaries. With the pay raise passed by the Cape Girardeau school board, a first-year teacher will make more money per hour than many other respectable professions, some with experience. Teachers are an important part of the community, but I don't want to hear them cry a sad song when they're making more money than other deserving people.
I AM appalled at the fact that our tax dollars are being used to jail a violator of a sign infraction. While he is being housed, real criminals are allowed to walk freely among their victims -- of assault, rape, theft.
I AM hoping that all area school districts will follow Cape Girardeau's spending of the welcome money. What a wonderful way to show teachers that they really do count.
DENNIS McDONALD is sitting in jail but has not been convicted of a crime. He received a suspended imposition of sentence. I thought that one had to be convicted of a crime before spending time in jail. What about due process? I have read about shock time, but I cannot find any information where a person has received jail time prior to a conviction. That looks like unlawful detention to me.
