Weak parties

You know, political parties in this country have become so weakened (particularly the Republicans) that Donald Trump may not need the party and its support in order to win the election. That prospect is, of course, very frightening.

Pet projects

The Jackson Board of Alderman should be chastised for demonstrating locally what we once could only view from afar. Much like our national leaders, these alderman love spending money on ridiculous pet projects. From the roundabout's decorative limestone to the shell game of ball-field renovations, the board has shown a propensity to thumb their nose at fiscal responsibility and basic common sense.

Visible anger

In a recent column, Adrienne Ross seemed to suggest that our presidents show visible, perhaps Trumpian, anger as concerns matters which make her angry. For example, she evidently wants our current president to be more visibly angry when it comes to terrorist attacks but not when it comes to common sense gun control, something she evidently opposes, although 90 percent of Americans favor it. I remember when George W. Bush showed visible anger prior to making the disastrous decision to invade Iraq.

President's raise

I think it is ridiculous that we give the president of Southeast Missouri State University a 3 percent raise and add to his annuity when he's just been hired and an outlandish salary given to him already. Why not give the students a break and cut their tuition instead of giving the money to the higher-ups?
