Freezing and thawing

I LIVED on a chip-and-seal road for 25 years. It will not hold up if you have a lot of thawing and freezing. It depends on the winters and how much freezing and thawing there is.

Add contemporary songs

NEAL BOYD is being overhyped. The only thing I have in common with Neal Boyd is I share a Boyd name. It's not like Cape Girardeau is a hotbed of classical music. If Boyd were country, he'd be cooler. Unless he sings some contemporary songs, I don't think Boyd will last long. Classical music gets boring real quick.

Need Route W mowing

I WAS wondering if the Cape Girardeau County road department could mow along Route W at Boutin Drive. There is limited visibility for the people who travel this road going to and from work. I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by us all. There are several areas where there's just hardly any visibility whatsoever. People pull out in front of you, and you're right on them before you see them. We sure would appreciate it.

Long stoplights

I'M A delivery person for a medical group in Cape Girardeau. I drive in Cape Girardeau and Jackson all day, five days a week. I'm not in any hurry. I always go the speed limit or below, because if I get a ticket I'll lose my job. Plus it's the law. I'm not complaining about the stoplights because they don't bother me personally. But they are not set well. I sit at a red light when nothing's coming the other way. Other lights are set to respond really fast. There seems to be no rhyme or reason other than someone's whims.

Low ratings

I NOTICE the network newscasters talk about how President Bush has a 31 percent approval rating. There also is a poll that shows Congress has a 9 percent approval rating. Why? Because every time anybody says anything about drilling for oil or developing a new type of energy, legislators are against it. They are for raising taxes. Remember, President Hoover raised taxes at the beginning of a recession, and we had a depression. President Franklin Roosevelt extended it by putting a 90 percent tax on the upper class, and it locked this country up. It took World War II to get us out of it. This is why the Congress has a 9 percent approval rating. This is lower than any Congress we've ever had.
