Need more restrooms

THE JACKSON pool restrooms are in need of restoration and enlargement, especially when Jackson hosts large events like swim meets. There is just one women's restroom and one men's restroom on the exterior front. Jackson has a lot of ballgames and swim meets for large groups of people from surrounding towns, and the restroom facilities are not capable of accommodating the crowds for these events. Jackson is a growing and nice town, and it would be to the city's advantage to do updating and expand the facilities in the restrooms in the pool and park areas.

Gordonville safety

IF SPEEDING is not a major problem in Gordonville, why is it that an enormous amount of speeding tickets are written weekly by the Gordonville police? Speeding violators make up the majority of the "crime" in Gordonville. If the real focus is on the safety in Gordonville, then patrol during the day when children are playing or during the school year during the day when children are getting on and off the buses.

Real character

HILLARY CLINTON'S real character showed when her womanizing husband made her look like a fool many times over and she hung in there for a political career. Her temper, vengefulness and truthfulness are known by all. But some hard-nosed Democrats, I guess, share her values too. It takes a village? Not hardly. It takes loving parents, marriage, tough love and a home with pride, honesty, truth and teaching respect for others.

Downtown flowers

I AM a downtown merchant. On July 15 there were three downtown locations that had beautiful flowers and plants ripped out of their plant boxes or flowerpots. I would like to ask the citizens of Cape Girardeau, if you see anything going on that is disruptive or suspicious, to please call the police department. There is probably little these downtown business owners can do in terms of the damage and loss they have sustained, but we are trying to make downtown Cape Girardeau look attractive. This is a big blow when you pay for plants and for somebody to plant them and water them.

Pickens' motives

BILLIONAIRE T. Boone Pickens is an oil man. He's made his money off us. Now he sees that there's more money to be made off wind and solar energy. I'll take my choice of energy use, but I won't really think Pickens is looking out for my best interests, because he's no scientist.

Failure to protect

ALL THIS hype about Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae is hype as far as the public is concerned. About two years ago, Franklin Raines was in charge of Freddie Mac, and he couldn't account for over $9 billion. The superiors over him decided to give him a $19 million retirement fund and about $2 million a year pension. What we need to blame instead of Freddie Mac is our federal officials for not passing laws immediately that would make this impossible. It appears that they don't give a damn what happens in Washington, because they aren't directly involved in it. They're supposed to be up there to protect the American people. They're not doing it.

Keep the loss limit

I'M NOT a gambler myself but have lots of friends who enjoy going to the boat now and then. I had an uncle who was a problem gambler. If there had been a $500 loss limit at that time, his family would have been better off. The way it was, he gambled away everything all the time, and they ended up splitting and the children ended up everywhere. Let's keep the loss limit. It might help somebody.
