Blaming others

THE full story under the headline "Congress approval rating lowest ever" explains that in the same poll the majority of voters don't like Congress in general but would re-elect their own representative in an election. In other words, it's representatives from other places who are responsible for our problems. This proves people have a tendency to assign blame outside their circle of interest.

Death penalty

IT is time to go back to using the death sentence to stop all this crime that is taking over our lives. Put the fear of God back into people. They now feel like you can't use the death sentence, as it is too hard on the convicts.

Forgotten meeting

I attended the CGSPA skate competition in Jackson recently only to find out after I called someone that they had forgotten it. How can an association that is in charge of collecting money for a new skate park just forget they have a competition after they had put it in the paper? I know you folks have families, but when you are being depended on you should be able to do your part.

Condescending remark

THE Speak Out comment implying only Republicans are capable of being employers with Democratic employees consigned to being forever dependent on them for their largesse was the most condescending comment ever published in this controversial forum.

Facebook law

STATE Sen. Jane Cunningham says it's OK for current teachers to stay friends with students on Facebook as long as they don't engage in private messaging. The law says, in part, "no teacher shall establish, maintain or use a non-work-related Internet site which allows exclusive access with a current or former student." Facebook allows for exclusive access. Cunningham is a legislator who is trying to cover her mistake by compounding it. I pity a teacher who is hauled into court and tempts to use the "but Sen. Jane Cunningham said" defense.

Abandoned principles

TEXAS Gov. Rick Perry was strongly in favor of making it mandatory for all girls to be vaccinated for the human papilloma virus (HPV) until he became a presidential candidate, recognized it was time to abandon his principles and changed his position.

Liberal nirvana

I cannot understand how liberals can continue spouting the nonsense of their "utopia" and what it will take for us to get there. The sacrifices we should make to get to this social and economic nirvana includes, but is not limited to, the money we earn. Let's turn it over to the government so, in its infinite wisdom, it can decide how to redistribute it in a "fair" manner.
