Old news

TO THE person who is angry about the cameras at the stoplights: Who cares where they got the money for those cameras? If you're not doing anything illegal, then they shouldn't bother you. And in case you haven't noticed, there have been cameras at Interstate 55 and Route K for several months.

Local paperwork

I JUST read the article about Missouri sending its welfare paperwork to Arizona, and now it's going to India. I think this speaks volumes about our bureaucrats who feel Missouri doesn't have anyone qualified to do this work. This is totally ridiculous. If Missouri can't do it, it should not have the program.

Relief for pain

I HAVE an elderly mother who is in her middle 70s. She's in excruciating pain. You put this article in the paper about OxyContin being highly addictive, so she's just going to lay in bed and hurt. I hope you're happy. You should report about the people who need pain relief -- which you did, but you highlighted the bad side of it. Why don't you highlight the good side of it?

Bags only for trash

I SURELY do wish that Cape Girardeau would go with bags only for trash at the curb. Jackson has done this, and I think it would be great not to see those ugly trash containers overturned or rolling down the street on a windy day.

Highway series

SEVERAL YEARS ago, when the World Series was played in New York, it was called the Subway Series. When a series in later years was played between St. Louis and Kansas City, it was called I-70 Series. Possibly now the paper would like to refer to the upcoming series as the U.S. 101 Series, as each team is on U.S. 101 in California.

City identity

IT SEEMS as though many towns have a handle by which they are known. Cape Girardeau is the City of Roses. Maybe Jackson should be known as the Harassment City. After all, we're setting a record over here.

Attacks helped Bush

I LOVE this country and always will, but as much as what happened Sept. 11, 2001, saddens me, if Osama bin Laden hadn't sent sick people to hurt us on that date, our president, George Bush, would be in deep trouble. Nothing else has worked well for him. We'll come out of this, but Osama bin Laden saved him from a lot of deep trouble.

Elective class

I MUST apologize to the parent of the child in band. I was wrong. It's not extracurricular. It's an elective. He still chose to take the class. If you can't handle the class, then he shouldn't be there.

School uniforms?

IS THE Cape Girardeau School District ever going to consider making uniforms mandatory for students?

Mentioned in Bible

OH, BOY. You should get a lot of feedback on this one. The article that said many churches stumble in relating to homosexuality and quoted one of the five religious leaders as saying Jesus never talked about homosexuality and that he never even talked about sex is wrong. Here are just a few books in the Bible that mention and condemn homosexuality: Leviticus 18:22-23; 20:13; Judges 19:22-23; I Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 1:26-27.

Rough streets

THE ROUGHEST streets in town are Harmony and Independence. Are they going to be resurfaced?

Short memory

ALIVE AND well, we liberals do not have a monopoly on the word "hate." How very convenient it must be to have such a short memory.

Quiet on values

I THINK I now know why the Republicans have not mentioned family values lately. Very interesting indeed.

Charter failures

IT CAN'T get much worse. The charter schools, designed to save students from the failed public schools, have failed.
