He's a former Marine

I WOULD like to say I'm very proud that they put Matthew Martin in the paper as being a Marine hero. But they put an "ex" in front of Marine, and there is no such thing as an ex-Marine. They are former Marines.

Let them defend themselves

ALL THESE people over in Kosovo are fleeing. About a third to maybe half of these people look like able-bodied young men. Why aren't they defending their own country? They talk about sending our guys over there to defend them, and they won't even defend themselves. They want somebody to do it for them. If they don't have weapons, they could knock a soldier in the head and take his weapon, but they'd rather run. As long as they're running like that, I don't see why we should do anything for them.

Not peaceniks but cowards

I WANT to make a comment about something rather ironic. You always here that in the end the truth will show itself to be the truth. I want to comment about the Kosovo war that we're in. These guys from the '60s claimed they were for peace and they'd rather make love than war. Now that they're too old to go and have power, they're quite willing to send other people's kids. They weren't peaceniks. They were plain old cowards. Look what's happened since they got into power. They've sold American defense secrets to the Chinese. So there you are. It was a lie then, and the major news media went for it. And it's a lie now.

TV fizzles on 3-2 count

I HAVE been waiting for months to watch Mark McGwire bat in the official opening game of 1999. I was watching the game on TV. McGwire was up. The count was three balls and two strikes. Then the TV went on the fritz. In my opinion, this had to be intervention by evil gods of some sort. For a while, I didn't know what to call these beings. Then I heard voices telling me what to call them. Don't ask my why, because I don't know what it means, but the voices told me to call them the Falcon gods.

Sheer stupidity

ASK YOURSELF: How large is Milosovic's army? Certainly not as big as the number of refugees who are fleeing Yugoslavia. So please use your brain. Milosovic and his army could not have driven out that many people all at once. But Bill Clinton's bombs certainly could. Yet those of you who are uneducated or ignorant believe anything Bill Clinton tells you, and you'll vote again for a warmongering, whoremongering person just because he's a Democrat. Now that is sheer stupidity.

Keeping them safe at home

A CALLER wondered if Clinton would be willing to go into this mess and fight. I hope he won't, or all our precious fighting men and women would be shot in their backs. Isn't it great how the news analysts, the commentators and the White House heroes suggest our troops be sent in to save Kosovo? Or should we say to save America's honor while these heroes are safe and sound here in their homes and with their families?

Server pleads for tips

WOULD YOU please print this? This is from a server. I work in a restaurant. My customers come in, and I take pretty good care of them. We seem to have a problem with businessmen. They come in, and we take pretty good care of them too. They're very demanding, some of them, and then they won't even leave a tip. You know, we work for a couple of dollars an hour, and we'd appreciate if they would start leaving a tip.

You broke the law

THIS IS for the person fed up with traffic tickets. Get a clue. You were ticketed because you are not a law-abiding citizen. It is called breaking the law when you drive 7 or 8 mph over a posted speed limit. I applaud the police officers who diligently work to keep our streets safe including from speeders like you.

Get out of building business

I SEE the college is back at it again, River Campus and all. I think it is time Nitzschke and the college fathers get out of the construction and building business and get back to teaching college. That's what they were hired for. If they would quit spending and thinking of more ways to spend, they could quit raising tuition. If they continue as they are, no one can afford to go to college here. They'd better stop and think.

Just say no

WHY SHOULD we continue to pay taxes that gets spent on a small group of students while the rest of the students have to do without? These Wingos sound like they only have their own interest at stake. They don't seem to care about bankrupting our school district. The school board ought to say no to them just like they told the teachers no to their raises.

Appropriate Easter message

I'D LIKE to thank the Southeast Missourian and Hobby Lobby for the Sunday picture in the paper. As usual, it was very appropriate.

Dumped trash is eyesore

I WOULD like to make a comment about the trash along County Road 621. People feel free to dump their trash along the creek. It may be out of their eyesight, but for the people traveling into Cape and home again, it's a real eyesight.

Speed bumps for bridge

WOULD NOT speed bumps on the bridge slow down those who are unwilling to obey the law?
