She's my wife

ON THIS political correctness that's going on all over, I'm just about as fed up with this form of thought control as I am with all these hair driers on restroom walls. Political correctness is nothing short of just kind of dumb. For instance, a Native American is supposed to be an American Indian, whose ancestors, after all, came to this land at some point and time. There's no one more native American than my parents, myself and my children, and we're of Irish-German descent. Then there's the Afro-American. Now these people are either American or they're not. They do not hold duo citizenship. The one that really gets to me is "your significant other." I was asked at the doctor's office if my significant other was with me, meaning, "Is your homosexual partner or the woman your shacked up with with you today?" This is very insulting to me and my wife. It makes me very angry. So ask me about my wife or ask her about her husband, but don't lump us in with the immoral, sinful people in an attempt to give them an acceptable lifestyle. Political correctness is for the thoughtless people who are willing to have their thought processes controlled by outside sources.

No protests this time

A SPEAK Out caller recently asked where all of the Vietnam War-era antiwar protesters are. We are still around but are not protesting against the conflict in Kosovo. Unlike the Vietnam war, we consider this conflict to be in the national interest and winnable. And since the U.S. stands alone as the world's superpower, we believe we are immune from a nuclear holocaust. If we start protesting again, it will likely be against the likes of the caller whose comments undermine the war effort.

Just obey the law

THIS IS to the person who is fed up with traffic tickets. I have an idea to this solution. Now listen very carefully: Drive the speed limit. That will help.

Glad Prop B failed

WELL, THANK God Proposition B didn't pass. I am really thrilled. I get out here in the traffic every day, and I see how fists fly and people scream and angers fly when you accidentally cut someone off. What if they had a gun in the car? Also, our children will have less access to guns to kill other children. Glory.

He's the one

CONGRATULATIONS MAYOR Sanders. You are our man.

Other areas affected

I'M CALLING in regards to the "No price tag" comment that someone called into Speak Out. The Wingo parents put that price tag on that child's life, we didn't. What about the poor teachers who didn't get raises? What about the other poor kids in the school district who are getting their programs cut because this child needs so many programs?

Not for sale

IT'S GOOD to know that the NRA cannot buy an election in Missouri.

Hidden agenda?

I WAS reading about Jim Drury opposing the River Campus. It seems to me there's probably some kind of a hidden agenda on his part, because it's going to be right by where the new bridge is going through. That would be a pretty key location to put a new Drury Inn, wouldn't it? That's just my opinion. Let's see what happens. I hope the River Campus will be there for our community to enjoy for years to come. We shall see.

It should have passed

I AM calling because I'd like to state my opinion on the rejection of Proposition B. I think it's bull, and I am going to petition to have the recount of the votes, because I think they're lying. I do not think it's right. I think it should have passed with flying colors, and I think it probably would have if the government hadn't put its hands in it somehow or other.

Board changes mind too easily

I WAS just calling and wondering if the Southeast Missourian could find out what the magic number is of people that have to complain about something to the Cape Girardeau School Board before it changes a decision or reverses a decision or does something that adversely effects the entire community. Last spring, just because some parents squawked at Clippard School about having their kids bused to other kindergartens which had openings and teachers already in place and in budget, we had to rent a building and hire a new teacher at an expense of over $20,000 even though there were classrooms in the community with openings and well under the number per class that are the guidelines. So this community paid for an additional teacher's salary because a certain number of parents squawked. This time, the school's redistricting committee came up with an excellent plan. They said two years ago it was going to be revised. As soon as people started squawking, the school board said it didn't want to push this through in a hurry, like two years is a hurry. They backed down, and they did so to appease 20 or 30 people again out of a community of over 30,000. So I'm just wondering what number you have to have in support of you when you come in and complain. because then when somebody does something to my child or a teacher does something I don't like, I'm going to drum up that many people, and we're going to the next school board meeting, and we're going to get it changed to suit me and my child. We didn't elect the board to please 20 or 30 people. We elected it to do what's best for this community as a whole. I am appalled. Do what you were elected to do, not protect your butt because 20 or 30 people complained.

St. Louis calls the shots

ISN'T THAT amazing. Proposition B passed in all 26 counties in the 8th Congressional District of Southeast Missouri, yet we have to do what St. Louis and St. Louis County says. Sometime you wish we could separate them from the rest of the state and let them have their own little part of the state. They don't do anything that Southeast Missouri wants, and they get their way in every way else, seems like. Some bull.

Missed the message

WAKE UP, Missouri. I guess you didn't get the message. Proposition B failed. Thirty-one states have lower crime rates due to the fact that the citizens are armed. The criminals definitely have guns.

Register your views

I'D LIKE to express my opinion regarding the aggression in Yugoslavia and ask people to call the U.S. Capitol switchboard and express their opinion to Jo Ann Emerson or whoever your representative is. that number is (202) 224-3121. I think we're asking for a lot of trouble in Yugoslavia. We have no business over there. It can't get anywhere but worse. The European countries that I have heard of are not in favor of what we're doing. They're not going to back us, and we're just asking for a lot of problems.

Use him to clean out cities

I WOULD like to make a comment about us bombing Kosovo. It seems like this guy we're bombing got all them refugees out. Maybe Bill Clinton needs to hire this man to go into Los Angeles to get rid of these street gangs. Evidently he did the job, because almost 100 percent of the people are out of there. Maybe this is the man we need to hire to clean up Los Angeles and some of these inner-city problems.

Thanks for passion play

I'M A daily reader of Speak Out. I would like to congratulate the young people and adults on the Easter passion play at the First Assembly of God Church in Scott City. They were excellent. Bravo, kids. I can't wait until the next one.

Will carry gun anyway

OKAY, SO the socialists, the blithering idiots in St. Louis and Kansas City along with the bias left-wing media, not to mention Hillary the Hun, managed to reduce our God-given constitutional rights to defend ourselves even more. So Proposition B got defeated. That simply renews the green light for hardened criminals and government thugs to attack, rob, rape and kill us law-abiding citizens. It also makes us law-abiding citizens instant felons, because a lot of us will carry weapons anyway, at least in our vehicles. So much for the Second Amendment. You left-wing socialists out there will disarm me only when you pry my gun out of my cold, dead fingers. And to think I served in two different military services to defend your rights to disarm and subdue the American people. Now, I'll go down fighting for my rights and send as many of you socialists to hell as I can. I'm carrying anyway.

Voting the liberal line

AS WITH school funding, grants or political favors, Proposition B is another bill where the inner-city liberals get the vote out to defeat what smaller counties want. Many states have this law, and it hasn't caused a tragedy the liberals whined and cried about. When interviewing most who had voted against the proposition, they didn't even know a thing about the procedure to qualify for a permit. They just voted the same liberal line.

We had a century to do it

MADELINE ALBRIGHT, Bill Clinton and Al Gore all just love to say that we have to do everything as we enter into the 21st century. I want to know why we didn't do it in the 20th century.
