Thanks for the performance

I WANT to comment on the Academy of DanceArts ballet performance that was held on May 8-9 and to thank the academy owner, Joann Ruess, for bringing in the talented young lady, Dana Goodin Vanoni, who choreographed the ballet and also performed her own choreography for three dances. She is just superb and brought some cultural dance to our city. The families of the dancers appreciate her for sharing her talents and love of dance with everyone. Those that were unable to see one of those performances certainly missed a delightful afternoon.

Every day kindness

LANA COOK devotes every day to Random Acts of Kindness for others. She works at Dr. Freeze's dentist office where her sunny smile greets patients. I know she's gone during her lunch hour to pick up patients before and has even driven them to run errands during her own lunch hour. She always has a listening heart. She's constantly in a non-conditional giving mode of herself to others. She's gone shopping and done yard work who were unable for any reason. Her Christian love and generosity to everyone no matter, whom, should be admired.

We all owe $20,831

I AM happy to report that our national debt in March was decreased by several billion dollars. The nation's debt at this time if $5,666,007,565,054. Sounds like a nightmare, doesn't it? Well, it is. Each man, woman and child in the nation owes the government $20,831. This information does not come from a "misinformed Republican" as a contributor labeled somebody in Speak Out.

Let's be open minded

TO THE person who replied to the person who said Cape Girardeau and Jackson people are rude. She said the person ought to go move to some place else to more their liking if they think people are rude. Well, everyone has a right to their opinion. That's part of the American system. Maybe the people here are rude to them. I know it's not as friendly as it used to be. I've been here all my life. I know there's a lot ruder places than Cape Girardeau and Jackson. But this person has a right to live here as long as they want and has the right to criticize all they want. That's strictly the American way. So let's be open minded.

It's time to carry a club

I WOULD like to make a comment about Bill Clinton's supposedly helped Al Gore. Why don't the Republicans have a James Carville just like they have that Bill Clinton has for the Democrats? Why isn't there a James Carville on the Republican side? There has to be one. Newt Gingrich said in his speech the other night, "we have to morale fiber in this country," and it's not being done by the Republicans as they sit still and be quiet. We need to quit carrying a toothpick and start carrying a club.

Thanks to a friend

I WANT thank Anita Meinz for all she does for me. She is a real friend and I love her.

A kind granddaughter

I WOULD like to thank my granddaughter, Lori J. Proffer, for being so good to me during this Random Acts of Kindness. She calls me every morning and comes by in the afternoon after work to do things for me. She is a blessing.

A disappointment

MY WIFE and I attended the commencement exercises at Southeast Missouri State University. They were very, very nice. However, we were very, very disappointed afterwards. After the commencement exercises, there was a reception for the graduates and their families in the recreation center. My daughter, who was among, I believe, 11-12 graduates from the Department of Music, plus a masters in music education student, were all gathered around there, hoping to meet some of the faculty and the dean of liberal arts but alas, no one from the music department was even there, let alone the dean of liberal arts. We wanted to meet them and thank them for all of their help for our student's work when she was going through the university.
