City making too many ordinances

I THINK the city's going too far. When they tell you that all you can own is up to four animals and they have to be neutered, then it's time that the people elect new people in city office. Come on, all you cat and dog lovers, we need to vote these people out. They are ordinancing the people to death. It is ridiculous. They are coming up with different ordinances week after week just to make money off us citizens. That's all it is. It's just a gimmick to make money. It's not right that they come up to your yard and tell you how many animals you can own. That's ridiculous. And to tell you have to have them neutered? That's not right.

Organs for life? Dumbest idea ever

REGARDING THE editorial "Organs-for-life bill diverts bid for donors." I'm just in awe. Republican Chuck Graham of Columbia obviously does not want to be re-elected. He's made Missouri the laughing stock of the nation. There's nobody who wants to see this bill passed. Even the organ donation places don't want him. I can't believe that a man who killed your family, beat your wife's head to a pulp, stabbed your son 14 times and blew your other son's head plumb off, all he has to say is, "I don't want to die. Here have a kidney." See anything wrong with that picture? This bill should die a quiet and quick death. I would like to sit down with Graham and let him view the crime-scene photos. Then I'd like to know why or how he ever came up with this most absurd idea I ever heard of.

Leave the judging to God

IT LOOKS to me like we are getting like the foreign countries. We're having a wall between the Democrats and the Republicans. I think it's terrible that our children in school call their president Slick Willie. After all, who are we to judge? Are they God or are we God or are the people all God? I thought God was supposed to do the judging, not us.

Inquiry must be thorough

IT IS always fun to read a letter from W.T. Woods. His opinions are so absurd they are comic. Ken Starr is not allowed to just go after anyone for the sake of politics. Janet Reno and a three-judge panel have to agree that his investigation is looking into relevant legal issues. It appears that he is investigating and presenting evidence to a grand jury about a long history of harassing government employees, covering up evidence, perjury and conspiracy to obstruct justice. To prove any of these allegations will require thorough investigation, collection of evidence and many witnesses.

Jobs must pay more than welfare

THE BIG headline on the front page, "Jobs don't come easy when getting off of welfare." Well, the people who hire these people want to keep them at minimum wage all the time. They can get that much without even working. So if you want to get people of welfare, you're going to have to pay them more. That's just common sense.

Strangers turn out to be angels

THANKS GO to total strangers, two people who come upon my husband's truck accident on March 5. The accident happened on Kingsway behind Food Giant. My husband had to be cut out of his truck. These people talked to him and helped him until the ambulance got there. We are so thankful that there are angels around us. God bless you to Julia and George and to all the others that helped my husband.

Skeletons in everyone's closet

I WOULD like to make a comment about how President Clinton is attacking the tobacco issue. He claims "he wants to reach into the skeleton closet of the tobacco lobby." At the same time, when we reach into the skeletons of President Clinton's closet, everyone says that's all wrong. What's going on here? Remember, Al Gore made millions of dollars and also may use these millions of dollars to get himself elected. We need to have a fair, balanced deal. If President Clinton can sit up there and proclaim that the tobacco companies targeted young smokers and have skeletons in their closet, then I believe we need to bring the skeletons out of Clinton's closet too.

Tear down the old hotel and hospital

HOORAY FOR tearing down of all the terrible buildings. I don't see anything good at all about the Marquette Hotel or the terrible old St. Francis Hospital.

Thanks for help with telemarketers

STATE REP. David Schwab, thank you, thank you, thank you. God bless you. Finally, we have addresses where we can be taken off these telemarketers sucker lists.
