HOW TO help Social Security? Presently the 6.5 percent Social Security tax is paid only on income up to $62,500. Why not make all people pay this tax on their total income? There are many people right here in Cape making over $75,000 a year. not to mention members of Congress. Just think how much money we can put into Social Security in the next five years. Instead of reducing the Medicare reimbursement, we maybe could add dollars. All of you think about this.
I DON'T know if this will be the city's or the state highway department's responsibility. There is a bad place in the road on Highway 177 just a few feet north of Sibley Drive that is caving in. If this is not fixed, somebody is going to have a serious accident at this location. The concrete is breaking loose and caving in. If it is the city's place to fix, it should be fixed before winter. If not, the state highway department should be notified about this. It is located around the 1700 block on Highway 177.
I WOULD like to know why is it necessary to close Route J completely for a three-week period. Couldn't there be a access road for residents and emergency vehicles? If there is an emergency, the extra time wasted on the detoured road could be very important.
COLUMNIST JACK Stapleton recently implied many bureaucrats employed by the state of Missouri were emotionally distressed because they needed friends. I agree. I know a lonely state employee who was very depressed for just that reason. He once told me that when he awakened some mornings, he wondered whether it was worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.
REGARDING bare feet in public, particularly in a office or store: Some establishments post "No shirt, No shoes, No service." It may seem a trivial thing like men not wearing hats in doors especially in a restaurant. It's a time-honored custom that gentlemen remove them. It is the escalation of these attitudes lacking consideration that lead to more serious disregard of others. We are free to do as we wish only when it doesn't adversely affect others. Manners are the foundation of civilizations.
