THE EVIL know-nothing team of Bob Dole and Newt Gingrich say the president and Congress have no business interfering in baseball's labor management strike. I wish Ronald Reagan had kept his nose out of the airline traffic controllers strike when he showed his love for big business and fired the striking traffic controllers. What a joke he was.
REGARDING the Cape Girardeau public schools redistricting. How can people be so closed-minded and ignorant to the facts? Visit May Green school and witness how caring the teachers are. May Greene is known as the school with heart. The school system would not tolerate an uneducated or insensitive teacher. I understand people not wanting their children to go a school far from their home when one is closer, but not when they start degrading the other schools. If it is the location or the building that they don't desire, then pass the bond issue for another building. Too many people don't have the courage to admit they are worried about racial factors. Race is not a problem to children. Prejudice is taught in the home. All men are created equal. May Greene has been accused of not having a music program. The children attend music daily. Computers were also given to the school through a grant. Some people think May Greene chose computers over air conditioning. Learn the facts. Visit the schools.
I FEEL sorry for the mayor of our city to have to sit and listen and be on the TV for one of the councilmen to make such a scene as he did Tuesday night.
GERALDO RIVERA needs to come up with some new material on that stupid CNBC show of his and stop talking about the O.J. Simpson case. Everyone's sick and tired of hearing about it, and he can't tell us anything on that dumb show of his that we can't hear on the news. It's being plastered in our faces, and everyone's just about sick and tired of hearing it.
IT'S FUNNY to me that under the Reagan administration and the Bush administration nothing was said or nothing was done for health care, but as soon as Mr. Clinton got in as president and tried to get health care insurance started the Republicans had a different story, that they wanted to start off with something now. Why couldn't it have been when Ronald Reagan was in, or when Bush was in, or back when Ford and them was in, why couldn't they do something about then? But now they know so much about it all. They know how to balance the budget and everything now. It's funny to me they didn't know how to do it then. I could tell you how to balance the budget, but they wouldn't listen to me.
I WONDER if the Southeast Missourian would explain about the stories in the paper. Reading my Thursday Southeast Missourian, the story starts on page 10 and continues on page 9. I have noticed this in several different articles. I always thought you went from the lower page to the higher page number to finish the story. Is there a reason for this?
REPLY: Each week the Missourian has several feature pages that take up an entire page. On Thursdays, one of those pages is Arts & Leisure. Because there is more arts/leisure news than will fit on one page, stories are continued to previous pages. The reason for putting Arts & Leisure on the back page of a section is to permit the use of color photographs. If Arts & Leisure started on page 8 of a 10-page section, the stories would be continued on higher-numbered pages, but there wouldn't be any color on the main Arts & Leisure page. Thanks for asking.
