Dear Gary:

I am enclosing our check to support your efforts in the Newspapers In Education Program which provides newspapers to classroom students in Southeast Missouri on a daily basis.

As a young farm boy in Southeast Missouri without benefit of television or radio, my only tie to the outside world was a daily newspaper. Although in the intervening years we now have the advances of television and radio, knowledgeable people will recognize that although they inform marginally, they do not educate. A great many people, including myself, have been concerned about the illiteracy level of high school students. Much of that can be corrected by providing interesting information such as we find in the local daily newspaper.
