This will be a big year for politics. There will be plenty of opportunities to hear from local, state and national candidates on the issues. We encourage you to take time to sift through the noise, understand the issues and decide who should be elected to public office.

While the contests are important, there are other elected officials and government leaders not on the ballot who have important information to share, and citizens should stay involved with the process.

The League of Women Voters is hosting an event next month that will feature Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger, Jackson Mayor Dwain Hahs, Cape Girardeau School District superintendent James Welker and Jackson School District superintendent John Link.

The program begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
